It’s been another busy and heartwarming month at NHS, filled with wagging tails, community spirit, and lots of reasons to be thankful.

🐾 Events & Community Connections

• We loved seeing so many animal lovers at Petpalooza in Brighton—thank you for stopping by our booth!

• Story Time with the Cobourg Public Library brought kids and Kittens together in the sweetest way.

• Bark & Brew is wrapping up after successful summer—thank you to Northumberland 89.7fm for organizing this amazing weekly event. To everyone who joined us for laughs, drinks, and puppy cuddles, we hope you’ll join us at the Ganaraska Brewing Company, Port Hope, on Sept. 2nd for the fundraising total reveal!

• A big shoutout to our amazing community: RE/MAX River Rouge Realty, who supported NHS with Cones for a Cause, and Aubrey-Rose and Wesley Boniface with their incredible lemonade stand held in our honour. And last but not least, our friends at Haute Goat & Goatchella — you make this work possible.

🐕 Focus on Fostering

Behind every adoption success story is often a foster home that gave an animal the time, space, and love they needed to heal and grow. Our fosters are heroes—providing safe places for pets until they find their forever families or in cases of an emergency, such as a house fire.

Lisa Stagno, a dedicated NHS volunteer and long-time foster parent, has opened her heart and home to at least eight animals over the years. She loves sharing stories and photos of her foster pets, along with her experiences supporting the Northumberland Humane Society.

Said Lisa, “Fostering is more than a safe place to stay—it’s a bridge from fear to hope. 

Fostering changes lives—twice. For the animal, it means safety, healing, and a second chance at love. For me, it means joy, purpose, and the privilege of watching a scared soul blossom into their true self. Together, we both grow.”

Golfer fees: $200/player and includes 18 holes of "scramble golf" at Dalewood Golf Club, lunch, dinner, shared cart, specialty prize holes and more! Dinner only option $75

All golfers receive a $40 tax receipt
