Hello Paw Pals,

As we wrap up another year, December is the perfect time to pause, reflect, and say thank you. Thanks to your compassion and generosity, the Northumberland Humane Society continues to be a place of safety, healing, and second chances for animals who need us most.

💚 A Season of Thanks

This month, our hearts are full. From volunteers and foster families to donors, sponsors, and community partners - you made 2025 extraordinary. Whether you gave an hour, a day, or supported us all year long, your impact is felt every single day at the shelter.

A special thank you to everyone who supported Tim Hortons’ Holiday Smile Cookie Campaign, helping raise an incredible $21,340.51 for animals in our care. We are truly grateful to the local Tim Hortons teams, volunteers, and cookie decorators who made this campaign such a success.

To 89.7fm Truly Local Radio, The Cobourg Pet Nanny, and the Ganaraska Brewing Co. - you made our summer! Thank you for hosting Bark & Brew each week and the guests who made it extra special. And to Dave at GBC, an extra shout-out for hosting Karaoke4Paws twice this year!

Summer of 2025 was a particularly difficult time for our shelter team and our feline guests due to an outbreak of Ringworm in the community. Our team worked so hard, implementing protocols to keep not just our animals safe, but our people as well. Thank you team! And thank you to our community who stood by us as we navigated our way through it. Your donations of cleaning and PPE supplies and cat & kitten items, helped us provide the best of care for over 70 of our feline friends!

Despite the challenges, this year we celebrated 394 adoptions! Because of you, that’s 394 second chances at a lifetime of cuddles, treats, pets, and purrs.

Thanks to the dedication of our team and community, over 100 families were reunited with their beloved pets this year through the Northumberland Humane Society. Each reunion meant relief, joy, and the comfort of bringing a family member home - proof that microchipping, licensing, and compassionate animal services truly make a difference.

💚Volunteers: The Heart of NHS

From events and fairs to cookie campaigns and daily shelter care - our volunteers are the backbone of everything we do and that’s why we call them our PAWsome People Pack! Your kindness, dedication, and love for animals inspire us all. We simply couldn’t do this work without you.

As always, there is so much more to celebrate and be thankful for than we can fit into one newsletter. The unwavering support of our community partners, like Haute Goat, PaulMac’s Pets, Pet Valu, Justin’s Pet Store, Duke’s, and the Cobourg Pet Nanny to name but a few - continues to amaze us, and every act of Kindness - big or small - helps change lives.
